It finally happened.  The day they've been dreading ever since we told them we were moving.  The first day of school.

The morning started early with Ethan.  He has to get up at 5 to be able to get to seminary by 6.   That didn't stop him from getting all spruced up for the big day.

Ethan.  9th Grade.  High School.  Heaven help us.

Next came the twins.

Alaina & Austin.  8th Grade.  Last year of middle school.

And finally Jason.  Kindergarten.

Here he is right outside of his Kindergarten class.

Emmett was so excited that he needed his own backpack for our trip to drop off Jason at school.

Emmett started Joy school this year.  (It wasn't going to start for a few more weeks, but I thought I'd mention it now.  That's 5 kids in 4 different schools, if anyone was going to be counting.)

Let the fun begin.
One beautiful August Sunday, I was busy running around like a madwoman; little boy shoes in one hand, another child's shirt with a hair brush in the other, yelling at one kid or another to hurry up and get ready.  It was not peaceful.

At that point, Ethan decided that he looked good.  Real good.  So good, in fact, that he had to be photographed.  At that moment.  Ethan has a special way of demanding the impossible with an urgency parallel to DEFCON 1.

It was just about at that moment that things were coming together and I'd usually start ushering them all into the van.  I took a second, and looked right and Ethan.  He was right, you know.  He was looking especially dapper.  Then I looked out back to that beautiful green lawn.  That, I thought, would make a mighty fine backdrop.

Instead of shoving all the kids out the front door, I pushed them out the back for a few pictures.

The first one looked so cute, I insisted on a few more...

By then Ethan was reminding me, in a very loud and grumpy voice, that he only meant the he should have a picture of himself.   He would, however, allow Emmett to join him.  So I took a few of those shots.

The kid wasn't wrong.  Those pictures are adorable.

The moment they were taken, Ethan started stressing out about how we were running late for church.  Unfortunately for him, I was now on a roll.

These two guys definitely needed a couple more pictures together.

And for good measure, one apart.

At this point, Alaina insisted I get a picture of me.  I only agreed if she could be with me.  (I'm always the last person to get ready, so I hadn't gotten past the wet-hair look yet.  Or found my shoes.)

See how she grows!

By that time, Robert found us all in the backyard.  He'd finally gotten himself ready and was wondering where everyone ended up.

Just for a second Ethan thought that he might have been as tall as his dad.  He was wrong.
Not yet, kid.

Look at this good looking group!  We may have been a few minutes late for church, but it was well worth it.

I do loves these Joneses.

I don't know what made me think that it was haircut time...but we decided it finally was.

I mean.  Look at my sweet daughter...ahem, son, here.

He likes what he sees!

L'artiste!

This picture reminds me of Scott, when we were in our early 20's.  Gina, Scott, Jim? and I were looking through old photo albums.  We were making fun of our old pictures.  (I seem to remember a lot of focus on some of MY early pics.  "I don't like teasin'!  Now I'm teasin'.")   I remember saying things like, "whoa.  That's not a good look."  and "ooohhh.  it got worse!"  Then Scott started talking to himself and we hear him saying.  "Nice!  Wow. I'm looking good there.  Oh.  Now I'm really looking good." It went on.  It was awesome.  I can just hear the voice inside of Jason's head here saying, "Wow!  Now I'm really looking good!"
