Mom's funeral was beautiful. The grandchildren did a wonderful job singing and Jonathan and Devon did a good job talking about Mom. It was lovely to see so many friends come together to join the family in celebrating Mom's life.
Austin was able to go to the funeral since he was home healing and serving as a service missionary. Kyla was able to get permission to come home for the funeral. It was good to see both of these sweet missionaries together. Mom would have loved it.
There is no explaining how this happened. There was a random chicken roaming around the church parking lot and Jason caught it. It was weird.
Back at home we were able to socialize with family a little bit more.
March 7th
When Mom first went to the hospital earlier in February, Robert went down to be with her. The brothers and Tonnette all joined him there. Robert enjoyed the time he had to talk with her and his siblings.
When Mom rallied, Robert came home. In March, her health really started to fail. After a scary stay in the ER, Robert decided that it was time to go home and spend some final time with Mom and the family. Emmett wanted to go with Rob. We tried to explain to him that Grandma probably wasn't going to be able to talk to him, but he still wanted to go. We finally relented and Robert and Emmett flew to California.
By the time they got there, Mom was home on hospice. She was sleeping most of the time in the living room and not really able to talk much at all. Robert and Emmett tried to talk to her, but she really didn't respond. As they turned to go to bed, she called out Emmett's name. It was the last thing that she said.
Emmett felt very connected to Mom in that moment, and he was so happy he was able to see her. While she slept, the family would take small excursions around town. They went for walks, geo-caching and walks in the Redwoods. For most of their time, however, they were just happy to be with Mom on this last part of her journey.
We enjoyed being kept in the loop through facetime.
It made me feel comforted to know that Mom was always surrounded by family and friends who loved her so much.
