Happy Halloween!!!!!
This Halloween, I'd like to introduce, 'The Phineas and Ferb Family!" That's right. A family costume. The kids have been obsessing about this idea for a month. It took me about that long to make all the costumes. In fact, Friday morning I was sewing like a mad-woman up until the last possible moment before we were off to the Main Street Halloween Trick or Treat. Ethan's lab coat and Alaina's pink dress were the only things I bought. Austin's shirt was painted on. (only the front...I ran out of time to do the back. :) The masks, I just cut out of felt and sewed onto poster board. And let's talk a little bit about Robert's clever little gem of an outfit. I got an XXL pair of sweat pants for 5 bucks. I sewed down the sides to make it fit ( a little too snugly, I was informed. Oops.) and with the material I cut off the legs, I made this little halter top thing. I used purple felt for the belt. We pinned it on so Robert couldn't shimmy out of it while he walked. To finish it of, we pinned on a felt giant button on top of his shirt. The first thing Austin said was, "You did it wrong. Ferb's collar is white." Ah, but that child is a stickler for the details. We sprayed the hair matching colors and here we are, in all our Phineas and Ferb-a-licious glory. (I'm Candace, Alaina is 'whatcha doin'?' Isabella and Ethan is the evil, Dr. Doofinsmirch.)
And just in case you couldn't tell who was who...

Now, despite my expert seamstress skills, Robert was a little embarrassed about his outfit. He thought he look a little silly. Ok. A lot silly. But, Rob was a good sport and we went straight to the trick or treating on down Main Street. I don't know if it was the novelty of the outfits or just the fact that the whole family was involved, but we were getting comments right and left. People stopped in their tracks to call over. Person after person called out how much they loved the costumes. All of a sudden, I noticed that there was a little swagger in Rob's walk. Not much later I saw him pumping his fist and giving thumbs up to random strangers. Ethan also loved the attention. I saw him giving kids high-fives and waving his little heart out. Robert leaned back and whispered, "It's like being a rock-star." And it kind of was. I can't tell you how weird it was to have everyone stare at you while you walk past them, whispering out, "it's Phineas! And Ferb! And Isabella!" and so on. I even started hearing Rob say things like "This is the best costume idea!" and other sweet nothings to me. And while Robert and Ethan reveled in the attention, Austin hated it! He was Phineas, and so it was his name they called out the most. He kept putting his head down and getting super embarrassed. "Why do they keep calling my name!?" He was so unhappy that he wanted to take off the costume altogether. Robert convinced him to keep it on by telling him how brave he was being. He did keep it on, even if he winced and ducked every few seconds. Alaina just took it all in stride. Nothing much phases that girl. It was almost like all the attention was just expected. "Of course they love me. Why wouldn't they?" I guess we know know who should and shouldn't be a movie star.
The twinnes.

We walked all the way up and down the street, stopping at the community center. They had tons of fun games set up in there and a cake walk. Not a cup-cake walk. An actual, giant, store-bought cake, cake walk. It cost 50 cents per try and so I told the kids they could do it twice. The second time round, Ethan won this giant chocolate cake. Yum.
On our way home we stopped by the nursing home and went through their spooky haunted house (mild enough for the kiddies) and yet another cake walk and, of course, more candy.
By the time we got home, it was late and the kids had stuffed themselves with candy and cake. I had to throw together a quick dinner and came up with tomato soup and spooky mummy tuna bagels. Something went wacky with my camera and the picture turned a crazy, overpowering orange. I had to take out some of the color...but I swear it looked more appetizing then it looks here. (Olives for the eyes.)

Here is a close-up of the back of Rob's fancy outfit. I totally screwed up my first attempt of the front and so I had to use it for the back and cover up a giant mistake with this handy-dandy label. (It really was snug. Poor Rob.)
And, to end up, I decided to grace you all with this lovely flash-back. This was our first Halloween in Charlotte. (princess, turtle and cowboy.) The babies were only 3 1/2 and Ethan was 4 1/2. Look at how sweet they were. I could just eat them up.
